No Open Barn This Year

Well so much has happened and changed since our last newsletter March 6th, it is a different world we are living in. We hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

For us personally it has had ups and downs, all of the shows and events we attend have been cancelled. On the upside our granddaughter Emily came to visit us March 13th for the March break and she is still here with us. Emily loves spending time with the alpacas.

We are sorry to announce that we are not hosting our Open Barn & Country Market this summer. For the safety and health of our vendor friends and our market visitors we thought it was best not to proceed this summer.

As thing are still changing weekly we may consider having an event Thanksgiving weekend. We will post on our social media pages and send an email if we are able to host an event.

Many of you have mentioned in the past that you would like to visit when we have babies. To date we have 5 crias, and are expecting another 10, so it's a great time to visit and see how amazing these little creatures are.

Our guests are finding that a visit with the alpacas is a great Covid 19 family outing- the tours are for you and your friends/family only. It is a great way to unwind, learn about alpacas, pet them and have a nice family outing without worrying about being near other people. Masks are needed and we disinfect all common areas between tours. Full details are available on our webpage.

You can book your tour directly on-line at Farm Tours

If you have any questions please contact us before booking.

If you are not comfortable doing tours at this time please consider buying a gift card to use towards a future alpaca tour. It would really help us out during this difficult time.

Thank you for your support, Doug and Carolyn

New Farm Tours

Due to Covid 19 we will only be offering Private Tours & The Alpaca Lovers Tour. We will continue to monitor the situation and make changes as required. We have hand sanitizer in the barn and the store, all items - pens, door handles, etc. , credit card equipment are cleaned between each tour.

Sorry you haven't heard from us in quite a while, we have been busy working on our new business, Laslyn Alpaca.  We would like to know what would you like to see happening at the ranch?  What would you like to hear about in our upcoming newsletters?  What do you want to know about alpacas?  Please feel free to email Carolyn with any ideas and comments you may have.

Are you anxious for spring to arrive? It's almost here, the sun is staying out longer, the temperatures are creeping up in the day, soon, very soon the crocus's and tulips will be poking up through the ground and the robins will return.

For us this has been a pretty easy winter compared to some of the past winters. We've only had one big snowstorm (so far) where we decided to close up both barns and keep all the alpacas inside. The alpacas don't mind the cold temperatures at all, in fact many of the alpacas prefer to spend a lot of time outside all winter. Alpaca fibre is about six times warmer that wool so the snow and cold really doesn't bother them. We closed the barns up because we didn't want to have to shovel out 3' snowdrifts from all of the the barns. Good thing we did too, some of the doors had 4' drifts in front of them and is was a couple of days before we had them all dug out and the alpacas could get outside again.

Some of you may follow us on Facebook or Instagram and already know about our Farm Tours, but for those of you that don't know we are now offering three different types of tours to meet the alpacas, Friday to Monday.

Sunday's at Noon we offer a Public Farm Tour - up to 20 guests. This is a good tour for those just looking for a quick experience, often families with young children.

We also offer Private Tours - just for you and your family or friends. This is the tour for those looking for a more intimate experience with the alpacas.

For the person who loves everything alpaca we now have The Alpaca Lovers Tour. And if you are really crazy about alpacas this is the tour for you.

Come fulfil your lifelong desire to meet alpacas and create memories you can treasure for a lifetime.
We will visit in the barn with the girls and last years crias (baby's) you will get a chance to get up close, feed them a treat, pet them, take lots of photos and learn a bit about them. Our first cria this year is due in early June.

After your visit with the alpacas you are welcome to visit our store and see the wonderful things we create from their fibre.

For more details on each tour please copy and past the link
Reservations are needed for all tours.

For the March break - March 16th to March 20th we have extended the farm tours to every day.

Monday, March 16th we are offering one extra Public Tour at 2:00 p.m.
$10 per adult ages 16 and up, $7 per youth ages 3 to 15 and no charge for infants under 3.
There is a maximum of 20 guests for this tour.
If it books up we will offer another Public Tour later in the week.

After your visit we would love for you to share some of the photos you took to our social media sites.

Upcoming events include shearing opportunities in May and our Open Barn and Country Market in the summer. More on those as we get closer to the the dates.

Christmas Events 2019

Sorry, I missed posting about a few of the events we have attended recently. We have been busy creating more shawls, mitts and some really awesome hats.

As with everything we create each hat is one of kind. We are always open to suggestions for new items or styles to create, send us an email, send us a doodle or sketch of what you would like us to create and we will see what we can do.
We love creating custom orders.

For the crafters and fibre artists out there don't forget you can come to the ranch and create your own one of a kind item. You can bring your own batts of fibre or you can use ours. If this is something that interests you please contact us to discuss it. We recently had two ladies come for a 90 minute session with the plan of each of them making a rug, but they got so into it they stayed longer and by the end of the day we had created 3 rugs, 2 shawls and a scarf ! It was a very fast paced and creative day.

Our next event is the Blue Mountain Christmas Gift Show, Nov. 16th & Nov. 17th. This is a great event for all your Christmas shopping with over 100 unique vendors. We will have all of our latest Laslyn Alpaca Fashions with us and will be accepting orders for Christmas gifts. We will also have everything you have come to expect from us - the wonderfully warm and comfy alpaca socks, insoles, knit mittens, toques, and the practical one of kind area rugs (we will also take custom Christmas orders for those), the perfect stocking stuffer for the environmentally concerned and practical folks - a set of dryer balls. Last but not least a favourite no matter what the age is our wonderfully cuddly stuffed toys - we have bears, alpacas, lions, penguins, elephants, horses, unicorns and giraffes!

We are glad to be returning to our roots so to speak by being vendors at the Flesherton Farmers Market Christmas Show on November 30th. We haven't been in a few years so we are delighted to be back and we will have all the wonderful items mentioned above with us.

For those you like to brave the cold and see the alpacas up close once again we will be having our Annual Christmas Sale in the Barn with the Alpacas on December 7th & 8th. from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm each day. This is a great time get everything you need to keep warms from head to toe this winters as well as some unique Christmas gifts. We have not yet confirmed our guest vendors for this event but will add to the blog when confirmed.

As always we will be accepting donations for the Markdale Food Bank, and the Firefighters Toy Drive with thanks. There are times in life when everyone can use a bit of help. We have a great community, let's help others have an enjoyable holiday.

For the comfort of our alpacas, please do not bring dogs to the farm.

Our barn is wheelchair accessible.
